I rebuild German marketing so it lands in English.
Transcreation and marketing translation, German into English. If you need it accurate, you don't need me specifically. If you need it to land, that's a different conversation.
I have worked full-time between German and English since 2007, including in-house positions at an international business law firm and two technology companies, all based in Manhattan.
My specialization is transcreation: the work that starts where translation stops. Slogans, headlines, taglines, brand voice, and campaign copy. The material where a faithful rendering is often the wrong answer, and the job is to rebuild the effect rather than transfer the words.
A sample
Source (a German-American business network):
"...die sich auf den beruflichen Erfolg von Frauen konzentriert"
Found English:
focuses on the occupational success of women
My version:
focusing on women’s professional success
"Occupational success" is correct and lifeless, and no English speaker describes herself that way. "Professional success" is the phrase the audience already uses about itself. The whole job is knowing that difference.
Transcreation
Slogans, taglines, campaign lines and brand voice. Priced per project.
Marketing localization
Websites, decks, email and social. Package-priced by scope.
AI & machine-translation repair
English that is correct but sounds machine-made, rebuilt to sound native. Hourly or monthly.
"Michael, with his experience in marketing, clearly had more to say... it was interesting to see how each translator's specialty field had influenced his or her choices and voice."
— Heike Holthaus, writing in the ATA's interaktiv journal, on the German→English Translation Slam
